Using Your Own Material

What if you don’t find a fabric or leather that works for you? Or, what if you want a completely custom look in your room? Then a "COM" or "COL" fabrics will be your best bet. The acronym "COM" stands for "Customer's Own Material," while "COL" stands for 'Customer's Own Leather."

For a small fee, we can use most Upholstery-grade materials on most upholstered furniture pieces. There are several other things to keep in mind when you select a COM fabric or COL leather for your new furniture.

First, be sure to find out the pattern repeat of your fabric; this information will help the manufacturer figure out how much fabric you will need to send for the furniture pieces you plan to order. Using a fabric with a large repeat will require more fabric in order to match the pattern at the seams on your sofa or chair. You can use this Guideto help determine material yardage required.

Also, keep in mind that using your own fabric or leather will void the material warranty on your furniture and that it is the responsibility of the customer to specify exactly how they wish the material to layover, how to pattern-match and whether or not piping is required. We cannot guarantee the end product will be exactly as you envision it if we are not told exactly how you want it. All COM and COL are non-returnable and non-exchangeable.

Rush Service

Standard custom production requires approximately 10-14 weeks lead time to arrive to have your custom made item ready to deliver. This is because it is produced overseas. However, NJ Modern offers a Rush Service whereby your custom order will be produced by our fine fabricators here in New York or, will be shipped from our overseas facility by Air rather than Sea. This cuts the lead time to approximately 2-4 weeks. This will increase the cost of your item and since every piece and circumstance is different we ask that you contact a specialist for a customized quote for needs.

This service will generally reduce the Lead Time often times to just a few weeks. If you are interested in such a service, please contact us through one of the methods below to get detailed cost information for your specific needs. Our knowledgeable and professional staff awaits your call!

This piece is a celebration and homage to the original design with a modern day spin using only the finest materials and craftsmanship.

Introducing our Limited Featured-Designer Edition florence armchair upholstered in genuine, Carnegie Wilderness Warm Grey/Sage and contrasting seat, backrest and piping in Italian Waxy Aniline leather Olive. You might recognize the design as the Florence Knoll armchair but our chair is so much more than that. The finish on this unique edition was created by Jenna Newton, aspiring Designer with BR Design in New York City. Each edition of the limited series is hand picked by some of New York's premiere designers and then finished with their choice of designer textiles and leathers for a one-of-a-kind, designer-specified modern treat.

As part of her pioneering work, florence knoll created what she called fill-in pieces, like this 1954 seating collection consisting of a lounge chair, armchair, and sofa -- all now deemed modern classics. The inner frame of each piece in the collection is solid wood and the angle of the seat is slightly pitched back like the original a feature which very few of the reproductions maintain. Our construction features exposed metal frame and legs which are heavy gauge square tubular steel in polished chrome finish-the steel used is generally twice as thick as other inferior reproductions. The construction of our reproduction knoll armchair also features seat and back covering that is fully welted and tufted and also features a matching button in each tuft and upholstered in a large selection of quality fabrics . All stitching and piping is carefully done to ensure the strongest stitch and clean straight lines. We use only fine fabrics and carefully inspect each piece used to ensure the pleasing overall esthetic. Cushions are "Velcro-ed" into place for easy removal and cleaning. Our feature line of seating, we are very proud of these reasonably-priced knoll interpretations crafted as the original but priced for affordability without sacrificing anything. Also available in a selection of fabrics.
